The European Association of Travel Writers (EATW) is a growing international network of independent journalists, authors, bloggers, and digital publishers dedicated to preserving authentic, human-centered travel storytelling.

Founded by Elisabeth Jane Bertrand, editor-in-chief of one of the world's leading Italy website Dolcevia.com, EATW was created in response to the growing threat of AI-generated content, automated scraping, and the silent erosion of creative rights online. We unite travel content creators across Europe and beyond who believe that original voices matter—and that our words should never be used without permission or payment.

What We Stand For

  • Ethical publishing, attribution, and licensing
  • Digital rights for small and mid-sized publishers
  • Protection against unauthorized AI training and scraping
  • Support for multilingual, regional, and independent travel writing
  • Fair use, fair compensation, and transparent content policies

What We Offer

  • Legal templates and self-help guides for publishers
  • Real-time updates on AI and copyright policy in the EU, UK & US
  • A curated directory of verified, ethical publishers
  • Collective advocacy to influence regulation and platforms
  • Editorial collaboration, translation exchange, and syndication support

Who Should Join?

If you are a:

  • Travel writer, editor, or photographer
  • Owner of a travel magazine, blog, or digital guide
  • Journalist focused on tourism, culture, or regional reporting
  • Content creator whose work is being scraped or cloned by AI

Then this is your space. We're building it for (and with) you.
